When on a 4WD trip that is "not suitable for Camper Trailers", we
use an
OZTENT
"Discovery".
A
great
tent
that
is
very
easy
for
one
person
to
set
up.
30-60
seconds
to
erect
,
then
a
bit
of
fiddling
about
with
pegging
down
etc.
Annex
walls,
when
needed,
take
more
time.
Plenty
of
room
for
two
people
to
sleep
and
the
annex
is
big
enough
to
set
up
the
camp
kitchen
and
table.
Also,
as
we
are
both
less
that
6ft
tall,
we
can
stand
up
inside
the
tent
and
annex. The
main
disadvantage
of
the
OZTENT,
besides
its
weight,
is
its
size
when
folded,
hence
the
white
pod
on
the
Patrol's
roof
for
carrying
the
tent
(available
from
OZTENT).
For
cooking,
on
those
occasions
when
a
camp
fire
is
out
of
the
question,
we
use
a
Coleman
two
burner
duel
fuel
stove
and
lighting
is
provided
by
a
12v
Versa
Light.
Cooking
pots
and
pans
are
stored
in
a
single
draw
Sabco
Stack-a
Draw,
whilst
food
and
eating
utensils
etc.
are
stored
in
a
4
draw
plastic
Zag
system
and
a
large
plastic
"Roll
under
the
Bed"
container
(all
purchased
from
Bunnings).
All
this
makes
for
a
neat
cheap
storage
system
for
the
back
of
the
Patrol
and
is
held
down
by
a
small
"trailer
net".
A
roll
up
table,
collapsible
chairs,
20L
drinking
water,
wash
dish &
bucket,
plus
a
Billabong
single grill flip over BBQ
(Hot
Plate/Grill,
folding
legs)
for
the
open
fire
completes
the
basic
camping
equipment.
All
this
with
the
exception
of
the
tent
fits
behind
the
cargo
barrier
inside
the
Patrol
with
the
36L
Engel,
leaving
the
back
seat
free
for
clothing,
pillows,
and
our
-5
rated
sleeping
bags
with
pockets
that
take
a
Thermarest
inflating
mattress.
These
mattresses,
even
though
they
are
not
really
necessary
with
camp
stretches,
are
great
for
keeping
the
cold
off
your
back.
Poles
and
the
annex
walls
for
the
OZTENT
plus
the
camp
stretches
lie
on
the
backseat
floor
space
of
the
Patrol.
